As the author of Measure P, I am happy to finally see this get done. This was a promise that I, and my Council colleagues made to our residents. There has certainly been a lot of Measure P funds spent on things that were not part of Measure P intentions, but at least we (City of El Centro) will get the two Major capital improvements that we promised when we introduced Measure P to the voters. A new Library, and a new Police Department. Both of these facilities were approved and designed under the old Council. The Library was completed last year, but the Police Department has been waiting for 2 years to get its final approval. The third item Measure P was meant to fund was our Parks. We spent millions on Park upgrades, and built two new Parks for our residents. Plank Park and First Responders Park. THANK YOU to Cheryl Viegas-Walker, Efrain Silva, Alex Cardenas, and Edgard Garcia for seeing my vision of El Centro, and supporting Measure P. #WeAreElCentro ... See MoreSee Less

The Explorers POST Program is designed to provide law enforcement training and experience to youth through hands-on instruction and mentoring. The City of El Centro and its residents are seeing the product of a successful Explorers POST Program. The ECPD has hired seven former Explorers, four as Police Officers, one Community Service Officer, one Parking Officer, and one Secretarial Assistant.“Our Explorers worked extremely hard and diligently to prepare themselves for this year’s event,” said El Centro Police Department Sgt. Adrian Chilpa and Explorers POST 1908 Program Lead Coordinator. “Their displayed efforts at the competition made me extremely proud. On behalf of all the staff and advisors needed to coordinate this program, we are grateful that our group of Explorers could return with awards as recognition for their dedication.”For more information regarding the ECPD Explorers POST 1908 Program, call Sgt.
